HDR experimenting

November 8th, 2009 1 comment

This weekend I did some more of experimenting with HDR photography. These photos I edited with Adobe Lightroom and Photomatix Pro 3.1. Wondering how I did it? See this tutorial of Trey Ratcliff that I used for it!

The Elephant Parade

October 11th, 2009 1 comment

The Elephant Parade

Mocht je deze olifanten willen zien, ze staan er nog een maand. Zie hier een routekaartje die langs alle beelden loopt. Volgend jaar zal deze parade in Londen plaatsvinden.

Amsterdam By Night

October 4th, 2009 No comments

The autumn has started again and the darker days are coming. For that reason it will be more likely to see Amsterdam by night than in the broad daylight. These four photographs I have already made a while ago, but I do want to show it. They give a small impression of the Amsterdam atmosphere in the nighttime.

Broad daylight

The first photo is the ‘skinny bridge‘ (De Magere Brug). The story of  this bridge is that the two sisters “Mager” (familyname) lived on both sides of the river (Amstel) and build this bridge to made it easier to visit each other. The next three photos are the Amstel Hotel (first two photos) and the Rembrandt-tower.

iPhone Photography

September 25th, 2009 No comments

Today I have performed a little experiment: testing the camera-function on my iPhone 3GS. This telephone-photo-camera with 3.2 megapixel delivers some pretty good pictures (at least, for a telephone!). Off course it has no sense to compare these results to a digital mirror reflex camera. All the photos in this topic are made with the iPhone camera function.

iPhone Photography

Interesting to note is that the ISO-values on these photos vary from 70 to 768 and the focal length is 3.85mm(!). It looks like this iPhone camera has the smallest optics and sensor in the world. The aperture is automatically set at F/2.8. That’s pretty amazing! Here some shots and results.

iPhone Photography iPhone Photography iPhone Photography

First thing I noticed is the noise in the photos. As soon as parts are a little darker than the rest, the noise in the photo increases. The auto-white-balance-exposure feature is quite good by the way, metering is set at “Average” most of the time and sometimes on “Spot”, which also works okay. In conclusion I have to say this camera is alright if you don’t expect a high quality of the photos and want to make a quick shot. Nevertheless I have to recommend using a regular camera, like a Canon or Nikon mirror reflex.

Animals in Amsterdam Artis Zoo

September 19th, 2009 1 comment

Today my brother and I (and both our girlfriends) went to the Artis Zoo in the Centre of Amsterdam. This very old zoo keeps a wide variaty of animals. For me this was the first time in this urban zoo, and I really enjoyed it! Here a small selection of photos of the animals we have seen.

Animals in Amsterdam Artis Zoo

Photos where all shot using my Canon EOS 450D and Canon 70-200mm (F4.0) lens. I shot the photos with ISO 200 (the turtle at ISO 800) and using “Highlight tone priority” as camera option.

The white blurry “lines” on the photo of this jaguar are the bars of his cage. These bars are to protect the small children from this hunter cat, hence the sad look on the jaguars face…

The First Signs of Autumn

September 13th, 2009 2 comments

It looks like the first signs of autumn are showing again. This morning my brother and I went to Ankeveense Plassen and the Kamphoeve near Hilversum in the Dutch provence Noord-Holland.

The first signs of autumn

These foto’s where shot using several macro-rings on a Canon EF 28-135mm IS lens/Canon 50mm F1.8 and Canon 450D body. I believe that the colors green, yellow and a touch of red/orange represent the perfect autumn feeling.  The mushrooms made it complete. Enjoy!

Tuscany Landscape Part 3: Culture and the Cittá

September 8th, 2009 1 comment

Hereby I present to you the last post of my Tuscany series of three. In this post I show my favourite shots of urban Italy, or the Cittá as in Italian.

Tuscany Landscape Part 3: Culture and the Cittá

In Italy we visited Milano, Pisa, Firenze (or Florence) and Siena. Of these towns Siena was the absolute best trip there was, what a beautiful city! It’s like walking right in the late middle ages of Italy, awesome! Too bad for us it was raining in Firenze.

That was that for our vacation. Fortunately autumn starts again, which most of the times gives great colors of nature to the landscapes. Hope to post again some of these pictures soon!

Tuscany Landscape Part 2: Fields of Straw

September 2nd, 2009 No comments

As promised last week hereby I present to you the second part of my Tuscany photo-series. Driving my car in Tuscany I witnessed some great grain fields with lovely views. Here I found also lots of these bundles of straw, or as in the Dutch song of Daniel Lohues ´Boben op ‘n strobult´.

Tuscany Landscape Part 2: Fields of straw

No filters where used for these photo’s. Unfortunately that day I forgot my gray and polarize filter. Still I think the result is okay. Some small changes in Adobe Lightroom (exposure, clarity, blacks) where made.

Spanish Cycling Going Dutch

September 1st, 2009 No comments

La Vuelta 2009. This pro-cycling event (the Spanish “Tour de France”) started this year in Assen. Assen is the capital of Drenthe, a Dutch province in the North of The Netherlands. My family and I where present at this great event. My brother and I grabbed the change to enter the pit-lane of the TT circuit, on which the prologue of the Vuelta tour was organized. As we where not in the possession of a press-card we had to bluff our way in, and with succes. See here for the results.
